Home!

Ya I am at home now and I have to make do with little access to the Internet and slow connection to add on.

Hope the whole TIG community is great. I have been discussing with Mwenda (TIG member from Zambia) on TakingITLocal for Zambia and the GAT activities for Zambia. We do plan to have a centre set up here for youths and schools and so far we have been discussing with many serious partners.

Watch this space!!!

Ready to Fly like Nelly Furtado!

I am now ready to catch the bullet train to the airport. Did I say train? Oh the bus to the airport. Then I hope to quickly hail down a concorde on the run-away and hitch-hike to Johannesburg for my connection flight to home.

Its been a great week in Cape Town and I am going back more aware of what technology can do for education in poor countries.

Catch you later all you fabulous people!

Global Knowledge Partnership Portal

Soon we are putting up the youth section of the GKP portal. We shall update it with youth activites, opportunities, challenges and events in the Knowledge sphere as well as ICTs.

With other youths from around the world, especially the GKP Youth Advisory members, we shall soon be recruiting youth groups as partners in the GKP. I sit on the GKP Executive Committee and hence will be interested to hear from youths around the world, ahead of our annual meeting, on how GKP and/or its tools can work better with and for youths around the world.

Visit the GKP portal and see how it can help you. It is a tool waiting to be used.

The portal is at http://www.tomoye.com/simplify/gkp/ev.php .

ThinkQuest Winner

I have just come from the Gala Ceremony of the I*EARN conference. We danced like hell. Ed Gragert was there too. And I met this Nigeria girl called Oyinda. She, with friends from other countries won an award in the ThinkQuest Challenge. The website they designed was based on the life of Vincent Willem Van Gogh and can be viewed at http://library.thinkquest.org/C001734/

The ThinkQuest Competitions provide a highly motivating opportunity for students and educators to work collaboratively in teams to learn as they create web based learning materials and teach others.

Currently, the following competitions are being offered:

ThinkQuest Internet Challenge

This yearly international competition for students ages 12-19 around the world and their coaches is now in its sixth year. Go to http://www.thinkquest.org/competitions.html to browse some of the great entries that have been produced here.
Note: Registration for Internet Challenge 2001 is now closed.
Internet Challenge Teams are developing their web sites.
They will be available for public viewing in September.

ThinkQuest Junior

ThinkQuest Junior is for younger students (grades 4 through 6 in the USA) and is run locally.
